Types Of Treatment For Sleep Apnea That Requires No Surgery

Sleeping is an important part of one's life so whatever it is that will make you not have it sufficiently should be arrested. If you do not have 6-9 hours effective sleep even though you lie in bed for more than these hours, you are likely having a sleep disorder such as sleep apnea. This can be cured with surgery or more preferably, through nonsurgical treatment for sleep apnea which is equally effective and cheap for everyone to get. Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) is a famous cure for this disorder. This procedure requires the wearing of a mask with a tube to a machine. The machine sends air continuously through the tube to the person's airways. Since this is done with some pressure, the person using it will not have any cessation in breathing.

But not everybody can use the CPAP mask. That does not mean the end for them because there are several other means to stop it. Positional therapy is another useful strategy that ensures the person sleeps on his side and not on his back. It is said that cessation can occur when a person sleeps on his back. Positional therapy is made effective by wearing a device around the waist or back of the one who needs it.

A very simple way of stopping this is by avoiding alcohol and cigarette. It is important to avoid alcohol because it has the ability to relax the throat muscles; this makes snoring inevitable when sleeping. In the same vein, nicotine in cigarette relaxes the airway muscles and the neural reflexes. The smoke from cigarette also makes the upper airways to be inflamed.

A person's occupation can make him or her more susceptible to sleep apnea. That is why you will hear complaints about this more frequently from caterers and firefighters. These people have to do everything possible to minimize the quantity of smoke they inhale if they cannot avoid it completely. One good measure they can take is wearing a nose mask.

You can also prevent this by eating well. When your feeding is targeted at losing weight, you will hardly have problems with sleep apnea. The result is more effective when feeding right is combined with doing some exercise as the two are measures of combating obesity. This is obviously the most cost-effective way of achieving this since it also reduces your consumption level.

If you have this disorder, you will be better off by taking some antioxidant supplements such as vitamin E and beta-carotene. These supplements work by preventing the activities of free radicals which cause oxidative stress. The oxidative stress caused by free radicals also leads to endothelial dysfunction, which is the inability of the blood vessels to contract and relax. Once free radicals are taken out of the way, the person who was once affected by sleep apnea begins to enjoy again.

The use of vitamin D is also helpful. People who suffered from this were found to have low levels of vitamin D when tested. Vitamin D is important in preventing this because it helps in regulating insulin and prevents inflammation that results from insulin resistance.
