Being healthy is a necessity for those who have high blood sugar. Staying in control of blood glucose levels is always a conquest. Many times, individuals who suffer with sugar diabetes often go through testing. What is A1C testing may be a question that many diabetes sufferers ask their doctors.

Diabetics may be accustomed to performing their own blood sugar testing at home to manage their blood glucose properly. It does not always add a true indication of what is actually going on inside the body. Physicians are finding themselves administering a test that measures blood sugars over a length of three months. The A1C test is an indicator of whether or not a diabetic treatment plan is actually working.

Individuals should have A1C tests done at least three times a year according to the American Diabetes Association, whether sugar levels are stable or unstable. These tests can be done at a physicians office, where a finger stick is used, and results are usually ready in 10 minutes. Through the use of this test, one can determine whether the diabetic management plans working, or if it needs to be altered.

The test measures the amount of glycated hemoglobin in the blood stream. Glucose usually binds to the glycates of the hemoglobin. The glycated hemoglobin increases depending upon the amount of glucose in the body.

Levels 5.7 percent or below are considered normal. Levels from 5.7 percent to 6.4 points to pre diabetes. Levels that go beyond 6.5 usually results in a diagnoses of Type 2 diabetes. The main goal is to make sure that A1C levels are lowered and are controlled over a long period of time.

Diabetic goals are tailor-made for the individual involved. There are certain factors that should be considered such as the type of diabetes, health conditions, and even age. Most have resolved to have a A1C level under 7 percent to cut the chance of developing any type of complications such as nerve damage or eye problems.

Diabetes may take a lot of work in controlling, however it is something that can be managed. The harder an individual works to control it, the better their health will be. Having a healthier lifestyle sometimes means that changes need to made to promote they type of life an individual wants to live.

Ways to lower A1C levels can start with exercise. It is good to exercise for 3o minutes a day. It doesn't have to be a controlled regime, but it can be done by doing something that is enjoyable. The important thing is to just get moving. Eating right is also very beneficial. Eating the right foods such as lean proteins, fruits and vegetable, and getting rid of processed foods can bring tremendous results.

Maintain a schedule so that blood sugar levels don't spike or fall. Skipping meals is not good when it comes to controlling sugar levels. Continue to follow the treatment plan as specified by a physician as well as monitor blood sugar consistently. When an individual understands A1C levels, they have a better chance of controlling them, and living a better life.
